When you think of courageous Christians, who comes to mind? Biblical giants like Stephen or Paul? How about historical heroes of the faith—Polycarp, Martin Luther, William Wilberforce, Elizabeth Elliott or Joni Erickson Tada?
My guess is that you didn’t think of Timothy—the apostle Paul’s spiritual son and protege. Timothy seems to have been naturally timid. He’s been described as a man of “years, tears and fears.”
Most Christians I know are a lot like Timothy. Most of us wrestle with fear when it comes to boldly living out our faith. Most of are naturally timid when it comes to speaking up for Christ.
But here’s some good news: Timothy didn’t stay timid; Timothy didn’t get sidelined by his fears. He became a courageous Christian. And you can too.
On Sunday mornings, beginning September 19, we’ll launch into a 10-week series entitled, “Becoming a Courageous Christian.” We’ll work our way through 2 Timothy, the letter that Paul wrote to encourage Timothy to be a courageous follower and servant of Christ.
I want to challenge you to be part of this series. Here are three ways you can be fully involved.
First, pick up a copy of the study guide (available September 12 for $5.00 each).
Second, join up with a small group to help you process and apply what you will be learning (watch the bulletin for details on how to get in a small group).
Third, show up every Sunday morning to hear a message from 2 Timothy that will instruct and inspire you towards Becoming a Courageous Christian.
Take Courage,
Pastor Rick
