MetroHoops Basketball Camp 2013

Vaudreuil-Dorion

I want to take this opportunity to thank John Corrente, The MET and the coaches for your amazing ministry/missions in Quebec. We had more than 50 kids participate, and many gave their life to Jesus. Parents called us to tell us how much their kids learned about God from the coach. We have a few families that come to the church just because of the camp from last year. We expect the same this year.

Our camp is held in our parking lot. and one day our local city counsellor walked in on the camp to say that he was so happy to see what we were doing. He said he heard good report from our neighbours.

Thanks and God Bless.

David

Toronto

Our first ever MetroHoops Toronto (Flemingdon Park) was a blast! The idea for this camp began when some Flemingdon "Move In" members asked if we could run an outreach basketball camp in their community in the summer. We responded that if they booked a gym, MetroHoops (in partnership with The Scott Mission) could run a camp.

Our first day of camp was devoted to reaching out to the community, knocking on doors and giving out flyers. The rest of the week we had between 7 and 10 kids out each day, along with 3 youth from the community, who participated in the camp as "Leaders in Training." In total, we got to connect with and minister to 13 children/youth and their families, sharing Bible lessons with them and engaging them in small groups each day. Most of these youth had little to no connection to a church family.

Although this was the smallest MetroHoops camp I've been a part of, it was also a great start in this new community. As a result of this camp we have made some great new connections with individuals and families that we will have opportunity to continue connecting with throughout the year. All the kids who came also had a ton of fun at camp, and were already asking about next year. Lastly, and certainly not least, we had the opportunity to share, in word and deed, who our God is and what His Good News to us is all about.

Thank you, Metropolitan Bible Church, for getting behind us in this endeavour!

Manitoulin Island

This year's MetroHoops Manitoulin Basketball Camp was our first ever high school basketball camp and, in my opinion, it was a success. The form of this camp was different than any other that I've been a part of or heard about. We spent almost all of our time simply playing basketball. Each day we had between 8 and 15 students from various skill levels, but all of whom came ready to play ball. Every day during the devotional time, that majority of the students stuck around to hear the teaching. To my knowledge, this would have been the first exposure to the Gospel for several of the kids.

Overall, we had a great week capping every night off with a bonfire back at our house. I believe the team enjoyed their experience as they built relationships with the students off the court. Thanks so much to you and The MET for the time, energy and resources that you sent up to us for the week.
