About Jesus

Jesus is what Christianity and The MET are all about. We’re glad that you are being intentional about learning more about Jesus and want to help you in your explorations.

The Bible tells us that Jesus is “the Christ (the longed for Messiah), the Son of the Living God.” (Matthew 16:16) It tells us that through Him, "all things hold together" (Colossians 1:17). Jesus holds the whole Bible together, from Genesis to Revelation. We are a Bible church, and look to the Bible for answers to the big questions of life. The Word of God is all about Jesus, and therefore it has the power to bring salvation through faith in Him. It is by reading the Bible that we come to know Jesus, and it is by coming to know Jesus that we are rescued from the penalty of our sins and given the wonderful gift of eternal life. This is why we are a Bible church and are so committed to God’s Word, and why it is the foundation for everything we do, both as a church and as individual Christians. We love the Word of God because it brings us to Jesus.

We would love to help you in your exploration of Christianity and guide you toward answers to some questions you may have. Alpha and Christianity Explored are both courses geared around helping people to explore the Christian faith in a welcoming and relaxed environment.

Alpha

''What Alpha offers, and what is attracting thousands of people, is permission, rare in secular culture, to discuss the big questions - life and death and their meaning.” (The Guardian)

Alpha is a relaxed environment to ask any and all questions you may have about becoming someone who is a follower of Christ – no question is too simple, too tough, or too out there. The MET is one of several area churches to offer the Alpha course as a way of connecting people to the Christian faith. Alpha is offered as a ten-week course on Thursday evenings.

Alpha is specifically designed to help you explore the basics of the Christian faith, investigating topics which include:

  • Who is Jesus Christ?
  • Why did Jesus die?
  • Is there more to life than this?
  • How can I be sure of my faith?
  • Why and how should I read my Bible and pray?
  • How does God guide us?
  • ...and much more!

We provide an interesting video presentation followed by dessert and a time for discussion and questions. The setting is relaxed and welcoming so if you are investigating the Christian faith or a new Christian seeking to understand your faith better, you are invited to join us. Come on your own or bring a friend! Alpha is typically offered three times a year; fall, winter and spring sessions.

For details about the next session or if you have questions, please contact John Gowling, Alpha Coordinator.

Christianity Explored

Christianity Explored is an informal course for people who'd like to investigate Christianity, or just brush up on the basics. It explores who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him. The class is offered twice annually on Sunday mornings.

You're not asked to pray, sing, or read aloud, and you can ask any question you like. Or, if you prefer, you can come along and simply listen. Course materials are provided free of charge to all attendees.

You can watch an introductory video about the course and find more resources for exploring Christianity at www.christianityexplored.org.

For details about the next session or if you have questions, please contact hello@metbiblechurch.ca.
