CITY OUTREACH
As followers of Christ, we are all called to be His ambassadors to a world in need of a Saviour. As a part of the local church in Ottawa, we have the opportunity to be Jesus’ hands and feet to our community in the Nation’s Capital. City Outreach is a key part of what we do at the Met. It is our heartbeat and our deep desire to love Ottawa intentionally with the love of Christ.
I want to serve
Community Links
Community Links are partnerships we have with local organizations and community leaders. We organize and take part in local community events such as Warm Hearts & Soles winter boots distribution, Backpack/School supply distribution, The Big Give, and many others. Follow us on social media to be in the know of our work with community links and other opportunities to serve with us.
Bridges
Over the last few years, we have seen a significant increase in the number of people experiences homelessness in our city, with over 8,000 people in emergency shelters in 2019 alone, and over 12,000 people waitlisted for subsidised housing. Through our Bridges ministry we hope be a light to that community once a week by providing them with a meal and an accessible church service with worship, a message from the Bible and intentional conversations after. It is our heart to love and care for those experiencing homelessness in our city through this ministry. Anyone interested in serving with this ministry can email Hemal Gandhi more information at [email protected]
Seniors Residences
We love and care for the elderly living in senior's residences. Some folks living there follow Christ but can no longer get out to church. Others used to go to church and are open to the message of Jesus. We bring monthly worship services to four seniors' residences, and Bible studies to several others.
Drop in Sports
Drop-In Floor Hockey happens every Friday night here at the church! We want to invite you and your friends to join us for a game of floor hockey followed by a short Bible thought where you can share the Gospel with your friends in a casual and welcoming setting. We hope to see you there!
Ottawa Inner-City Ministries (OIM)
For over 30 years OIM has had a desire to come alongside people experiencing poverty and homelessness to share the message of Christ through good works and compassion, while building self-esteem, and empowering individuals. Recently OIM has started a new Innercity Arts Program for people from 16-32 years of age to supply a safe and supportive environment for Ottawa’s street-involved youth to engage in the arts community. For years, The Met has partnered with OIM by serving on their Street Outreach, Door Drop-In, and Door Outreach Services.
Jericho Road
Jericho Road provides a men’s 9-month residential addiction recovery program, based on a 12 Step model of recovery. This includes connection to ourselves, community and the Christian faith. The residential program gives men the time and support they need to walk through this journey. Outside of our residential program, Jericho Road aims to create ripples of change within our community by coming alongside families who are affected by the person with a substance use disorder as well.
Pregnancy Care Centre: First Place Options
First Place Options provides compassionate community support to women and families facing an unexpected pregnancy along with other services including decision aid support, pregnancy support, post abortion, and post adoption grief support. They also provide free, confidential support for women and men experiencing grief after an abortion. First Place also provides a very successful community education program called THRIVE Ottawa. Over the years The Met has formed a strong partnership with First Place and support them monthly financially and are actively involved in their annual “Operation Baby Bottle”.
Jellybeans
Jellybeans is a free drop-in playgroup for children from newborn to preschool age. During play, the children participate in crafts, singing, and story time. The adults enjoy a hot beverage and treats while they socialize. We have special guest performances throughout the year. The Met library is open twice a month during Jellybeans, for participants to check out various literature and digital resources. Our wonderful librarians are there to help with your literacy needs. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at [email protected].
